About the AIT

Studying at the AIT is intended to enable graduated students to act as contact individuals for Islam related questions, in the interest of the common good and to present the prophetic way of life in the 21st century.

Foundation of the Islamic Theological University in Germany in 2013

The first Islamic seminary (hauzah) in Germany was founded in Hamburg in 2013 by Dr. Hamidreza Torabi, under the framework of the Islamic Academy of Germany. The main goal, which goes hand in hand with the foundation of the traditional hauzah, is the education of native people of Europe, so they may become scholars and theologians in their own right. As the students come from the heart of the European societies and are familiar with the domestic realities of European life, they can work out more adequate solutions for the social challenges of the present and future of Europe.

After six years, the necessary step for independence to preserve and strengthen its very own identity took place in the summer of 2019 for the institution. Since then it has been administered independently of other institutions and it has been known under the name of Academy for Islamic Theology (AIT). The studies at AIT are intended to enable graduated students to become qualified academics and caregivers in matters of Islam, in the interest of the common good and to present the prophetic way of life in the 21st century. For the winter term 19/20, over 30 classroom students from six European countries were enrolled in the one-year course as well as in the Bachelor and Master courses in Islamic Theology.
